About Us

Ming Tak Chinese School is the leading Chinese language school serving in Sutton and surrounding Surrey areas. We offer language classes in both Cantonese and Mandarin from beginner to GCSE standard. The admission age is from 4 years old upwards and has no age limit. For details, please click entry policy letter on Home page.

Ming Tak is an independent language school, founded in 1991. We are a private company limited by guarantee in England and Wales and a registered charity. The school is a non-profit-sharing, non-political and non-religious organization.

As a registered charitable organization, the school is administered by a Head-teacher and overseen by a Board of Governors (BOG). The BOG work on an entirely voluntary basis. The daily duty of the school is largely helped by a dedicated group of voluntary helpers, mostly come from parents of the Ming Tak students and who share the same value.

The school is staffed by dedicated paid teachers led by the Head-teacher. All teaching staff have received formal training. Many have had previous teaching experience. Some staff have been with the school over 10 years. The lower classes are aided by voluntary helpers and classroom assistants. Students will be fully supervised and monitored at break times. As far as practicable, all teachers and volunteers will comply with the UK DBS enhanced checked criteria. Additional DBS re-validation may be carried out as and when deemed necessary.

Lessons are held at Glenthorne High School in Sutton on Saturdays during term times from 10:30 am to 12:50 pm with a 20-minutes break at 11:30 am generally. On average, we have over 300 pupils in around 20 classes, but the number of students and classes may vary from year to year. Both streams start from beginner level through to IGCSE standard.

Aims and Objectives

The primary objective of Ming Tak Chinese School is to provide Chinese language classes and promote Chinese culture within the community in Sutton and the surrounding areas. We offer both Cantonese and Mandarin, written and spoken from beginner to IGCSE, and A level/standard. We cater for anyone who is interested in learning the Chinese language and classes are graded according to individual's standard and age. The School also runs extra curriculum activities including Kung Fu Classes, a Chinese Dancing Class, and Traditional Lion Dance Class. However, due to the current pandemic period, these activities have been suspended until further notice.
